Construction

We talked about one of my favorite topics this week - Construction. I did the construction theme for the first time last Winter/Spring session, and the kids LOVED it. So it was an easy decision to make it a regularly occurring theme.

Books:

Toddler Books:
Machines at Work - Byron Barton
Tip Tip Dig Dig - Emma Garcia
The Construction Crew - Lynn Meltzer

Preschool Books:
What Can a Crane Pick Up? - Rebecca Kai Dotlich
Tip Tip Dig Dig - Emma Garcia
Mighty Dads - Joan Holub
Construction Crew - Lynn Meltzer
Construction - Sally Sutton

Rhymes/Fingerplays/Songs:

Five Little Nails:
Five little nails, standing straight and steady.
Here we come with our hammers ready!
Bam, bam, bam! That nail goes down.
Now there are just four nails to pound...
Count down 4, 3, 2, 1...

Construction Vehicles (Tune: "Wheels on the Bus"):
The backhoe on the lot goes dig, dig, dig, (dig with hands)
Dig, dig, dig, Dig, dig, dig,
The backhoe on the lot goes dig, dig, dig,
All day long.

The dump truck takes the dirt and dumps it out, (tip to one side)
Dumps it out, Dumps it out,
The dump truck takes the dirt and dumps it out,
All day long.

The big cement mixer goes round and round, (roll hands)
Round and round, Round and round,
The big cement mixer goes round and round,
All day long.

The noisy jackhammer goes up and down, (move body or arms up and down)
Up and down, Up and down,
The noisy jackhammer goes up and down,
All day long.

Toolbox Hiding Game:
Bob likes his  hammer  lots and lots.
Is it hiding behind the  red  toolbox?
Repeat with different colors/tools
