About Me

Hi!

My name is Allison and I am a Children's Librarian in North Carolina. I have a Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS), and every day is a learning experience as I begin my career as a librarian!

When I first decided to add to the online forum of blogging it was because I think it is fun to share ideas and storytimes with fellow librarians (and library assistants!) in the field. I have found such valuable resources in the blogs online and felt this was a great way to help add to what is already out there, as well as keep track of my own storytimes.

I also thought it would be particularly helpful for curating thematic songs to use at storytime. It was incredibly difficult to find songs that have the right amount of movement that would be usable in a storytime and/or songs that don't sound outdated.

Now that I am transitioning into the role as a school-age librarian as of December 2016, I find a huge disparity between the amount of storytime blogs and those for librarians that create programs for older kids (elementary age and up). My current goal is to add to the field of school-age librarianship sharing activities, books, and crafts.

  1. Hi Allison,

I'm an English teacher at an alternative high school and I'm a big fan of your blog, particularly your curated lists of fiction and non-fiction by lexile level. Would you happen to have any resources for comprehension or activities for any of these texts that you would be willing to share? Thanks for all you do to promote literacy in your community!

    1. Sorry for the delayed reply. I know a lot of people shy away from Sparknotes, but it truly is a great resource for some of the popular literature titles used in schools. If there are specific titles you need activities for, feel free to reach out but here is the Sparknotes link: https://www.sparknotes.com/lit/
